The Electric Prunes - The Electric Prunes

Album: The Electric Prunes
Title: The Electric Prunes
Label: Reprise
Original Release: 1967

From the West Coast school of experimental rock, these guys were never taken seriously because of their name, which is why their influence on the later new wave/punk scene has never been fully acknowledged. Their use of the tecnology of the day, which they incorporated into their sound rather than using it just because it existed, has never been truly appreciated or understood until recently.

The Electric Prunes had three indisputable classic songs, I Had Too Much To Dream and Get Me to the World on Time which both appear on this album and The Great Banana Hoax which appears on their second album Underground.

I Had Too Much To Dream just missed the top ten peaking at number 11, while Get Me to the World on Time missed the top twenty, stalling at number 27.

The Electric Prunes contributed two songs to the soundtrack of Easy Rider, a fact that is usually forgotten.

This is classic mid-sixties psychodelic garage band rock and roll at its best and no collection is complete without it.
